DIY Airplanes!

I've been redecorating my 5 year old son's bedroom for the past few weeks! It's been hard finding things to hang on the walls! The theme is Transportation...which he loves! I made a couple of airplanes to hang on his accent wall which is Benjamin Moore's Hudson Bay. These costs well under $10 to make the pair.

Materials

Foam Board
Bristol Board
White glue/glue stick
Foam brush
Scissors

DIRECTIONS

-Find a stencil of an airplane you like online and draw it onto the foam board.
-Cut out airplane and trace onto your preferred colour bristol board.
-Cut out airplane from bristol board, leaving  1/2" - 1" edge around stencil to ensure the bristol board covers the foam.
-Glue onto foam and allow to dry.
(I brushed on glue for a smooth look)
-After the glue has dried you can now have some fun and decorate your plane with racing stripes, stars, propellers....anything you like. Perhaps if your little one is interested he or she can help!

Apple Bran Muffins

Today I stepped outside my comfort zone and made something other than Blueberry Muffins! I tried Apple Bran Muffins from my favorite cook book at the moment,   George House Recipes .
They were amazing...and the kids loved them. We ate the whole dozen between the four of us! Next time I will definitely be doubling the batch!

Apple Bran Muffins

1      cup flour
1/3  cup brown sugar
2      tsp  baking powder
1/2  tsp  salt
1/2  tsp  cinnamon ground
1/4  tsp  nutmeg, ground
1      cup Apple, peeled and finely chopped
3/4  cup water
1/2  cup powdered milk
1/4  cup vegetable oil
1             egg
2     cups bran flakes cereal

Directions

Preheat oven to 400°f. Grease or line 12 muffin cups.

Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg in medium bowl. Mix apple, water,  dry milk, vegetable oil and egg in small bowl; add to flour mixture and stir until moistened. Stir in cereal. Spoon into prepared muffin cups, filling 2/3 full.

Bake for 12-15 minutes or until wooden toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Remove to wire rack; cool slightly; serve warm.

Laundry Sign

I ♥ laundry and my laundry closet! This little sign looks adorable hanging above my washer!
I recycled an old frame that the glass had shattered in. :( Using black construction paper and chaulk, this picture looks like a real chaulk board!

Materials

Picture Frame
Black construction paper
White mat
Chaulk

Directions

Write laundry message on black construction paper, carefully glue paper onto the white mat and then glue onto the back of thr picture frame.(Careful not to smudge chaulk.) Place in frame and hang in desired location!

Easter Bunny Eggs

These are just the sweetest little bunnies on my Easter tree this year!
Again using materials I already had at home I made a few of these bunnies...I wish I had time to make some more!

Materials

Plastic Easter Eggs
Pipe Cleaners
Pom Poms (white)
Sharpe Marker
Glue Gun
String

Directions

Using colour coordinated pipe cleaner  (or colour of your choice!) Cut pipe cleaner in half and shape into an ear.
Insert pointy end into the hole that is already in the top of the Easter Egg. Repeat with the next hole.
For the feet I shaped half of a pipe cleaner into almost a heart shape, and hot glued it into place. It was easier than fitting it into the holes in the bottom of the egg!
For the pom pom's, I handmade mine out of string, because I couldn't find my other pom pom's !  Either one you use, simply hot glue it to the back of the egg for the tail.
Now you have to get a little creative and draw a little face on your bunny!
Finally, hot glue some string onto the top of your egg and hang it on your Easter Tree!

Easter Bunny Door

I really wanted to decorate our front porch this year, but I never got out to the stores in time to buy any decorations!
Sooo....
Using some materials I already had, I came up with this beautiful bunny!  Isn't he just the cutest?

Materials

Construction Paper
(Or other coloured paper)
Glue stick
Scissors
Painters tape

Directions

Draw ears, eyes, nose, mouth, bowtie and whiskers onto paper and cut out!
( I drew mine free hand, and used a bowl to trace out the circles for the eyes.)
Glue together the layers of the eyes and ears.

Use painters tape to stick onto your door to greet your guests!

Awesome Oatmeal Raisin Chocolate Chip Cookies

1   cup        butter, melted
2   cups      brown sugar
2                  eggs
2   tsp         vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1   tsp         salt
1   tsp         baking soda
1   tsp         cinnamon
3   cups      rolled oats
1   cup        milk chocolate chips
1   cup        raisins

Directions:
Preheat oven to 375°f. In a large bowl, mix melted butter, brown sugar, eggs and vanilla. Sift in flour, salt, baking soda and cinnamon and mix well. Stir in oats, raisins and chocolate chips.

Drop dough by the spoonful onto a sprayed or greased cookie sheet and bake for 10 minutes.
Even though the cookies may look a little undercooked, take them out after 10 minutes and transfer to wire rack. They will finish cooking and firm up while cooling on rack.
